Jane Here-

Pursue your passion under the tutelage of seasoned artists whose polished talents are shared freely. Whatever your talent level may be there is something valuable in gathering together in a similar pursuit.

Roald Dahl stated, 'if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be.”

If you have had the desire to become an artist, now is your time.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is staying an artist when you grow up.”
-Pablo Picasso

As collectors and lovers of original art, we are drawn to the organic. Something about it gets inside of us. It makes us think. It makes us feel. It grabs a hold of that creative child within us and urges us to connect that piece of us to our present. Famed researcher, Dr. Brene Brown has said that “The only unique contribution that we will ever make in this world will be born of our creativity.” And yet, when was the last time you gave those inner creative yearnings a canvas?

At Illume Gallery of Fine art, Authentique Gallery and The Mission Gallery, we agree with that research. Whether you are a novice or an experienced aficionado, our artist workshops are designed to provide an opportunity for you to connect to that inner creativity.

Each month, selected instructors from our wide stable of nationally acclaimed artists reserve three days to join with individuals wanting to expand their creative abilities. Attendees spend the days creating, learning specific techniques, hearing stories and gleaning knowledge from their Artist-Instructor. Lunch is held in a roundtable format as the students share what they are learning, network together and glean from one another. The classes become a canvas in and of themselves as the group creates a synergistic flow of artistic energy. On the Thursday evening of Workshop Week, a “Conversations with the Artists” event is held following the workshop at 6 p.m. In this event, workshop participants, collectors and the general public are invited to an evening with our Artists. Each artist takes a few minutes to express what compels them in their work, at which time the floor is opened for questions and discussion. It is an anticipated event in the community and one that our workshop students have come to greatly enjoy.

Students have come away having had individual yet equally important experiences. Some have taken a wealth of information. Some have had artistic break throughs. And some have learned one small thing that transforms the way they create. The resounding feedback is that the camaraderie felt in gathering in an intimate group has been an experience that has altered our participants’ art. They network with our renowned instructors, gallery owners and their classmates. They begin to become part of the community. We treasure our workshop attendees as new friends. Gallery Owner, Jane Bell Meyer, has even been known to purchase favorite pieces from the classes. Her most recent acquisition was from a workshop taught by Kathryn Stats and painted by workshop attendee, Mary Jabens. Jane saw Mary creating the work and had to have it for her personal collection.

Workshops are hosted by Illume Gallery of Fine Art in Downtown Salt Lake City and also in The Mission and Authentique Galleries in St. George, Utah. Class size is limited, so participants are encouraged to reserve their spot early. Workshop Instructors slated to attend in the coming months include J. Kirk Richards, Julie Rogers, Joseph Alleman, Ben Hammond, Linda Glover Gooch, Joseph Lorusso and Randall Sexton. You’ll never know what you can create unless you pick up a brush and try.
